Warning: this article contains spoilers from XO, Kitty season 3!
XO, Kitty season 3 revealed an interesting update for fans of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’s Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), changing their dynamic years after their introduction. Throughout the To All The Boys films, Lara Jean and Peter’s relationship has an array of ups and downs. Going from a contractual relationship to a genuine one, the pair’s feelings grew slowly.
By the end of the third To All The Boys film, Peter and Lara Jean’s long-distance love seems like the right choice, despite Peter going to Stanford while Lara Jean heads to NYU. When Peter visited Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) during XO, Kitty season 2, he shared that he and Lara Jean’s relationship was still going strong despite the distance.
XO, Kitty season 3 finally saw Lara Jean visiting Kitty in Seoul and brought some major changes to the franchise’s original couple.
Lara Jean & Peter Are Broken Up At The Start Of XO, Kitty Season 3
As XO, Kitty season 3 gets underway, viewers learn that Lara Jean and Peter are going through a rough patch. Kitty, who’s spent the summer in New York with LJ as she prepares for her senior year, appears excited to get the chance to see her sister in her element, and while she brings up Peter, it’s obvious that things aren’t great between the pair.
With XO, Kitty taking place years after the final To All The Boys film, Lara Jean and Peter are now roughly 23 years old. After finishing college, Lara Jean’s said to have found a job at a publishing house as an assistant editor. She reveals that she finally finished a manuscript of her novel, but explains that the single life gave her more time to write.
By the time Lara Jean comes to see Kitty in Seoul, her relationship with Peter seems to be more complicated than ever. While Kitty makes it clear that she believes the couple will find their way back to each other, Lara Jean doesn’t seem so sure. Instead, she focuses on getting Kitty through her own struggles and helps her finish her early decision application to NYU.
XO, Kitty Season 3’s Relationship Update Pained The Realities Of Long Distance
Although the idea of Lara Jean and Peter’s relationship facing major developments off-screen is a tough pill for fans to swallow, learning about their issues second hand is still interesting. The pair shared during To All The Boys: Always And Forever that they were going to try to make things work from New York to LA and back, but the realities of long-distance can be tough.
Lara Jean and Peter, both having appeared on XO, Kitty in different moments, were both upfront about it being hard to be apart. Even visiting Korea at different times, it was clear that the pair were still trying to make things work years later. With Peter having started his career in California while LJ started hers in New York, the relationship was bound to see difficulties.
Seeing Lara Jean acknowledge that things were tough between her and Peter with neither of them being willing to move to each other’s home base after college was refreshing. Rather than simply having the couple decide to make things work in an easy fashion, muddying their romance a bit allowed Lara Jean and Kitty to connect on entirely different levels.
Lara Jean & Peter Ultimately Wound Up Back Together By XO, Kitty Season 3’s End
Although Lara Jean and Peter’s relationship took a hit during XO, Kitty season 3, by the season finale it was clear that they were back on track. When Lara Jean called Kitty to wish her a happy birthday, she revealed that Peter also sent his well-wishes. LJ shared that she and Peter were going to make things work without giving much detail about how.
As XO, Kitty is a series about Kitty, the show didn’t dive deeply into what comes next for Lara Jean and Peter. Still, the original To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before pair got their happily ever after, at least for now, by the end of XO, Kitty.
