The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), present in more than 80 countries, celebrated for the first time a symposium in Mexico, attended by federal authorities, executives of large tourist companies and holders of tourist promotion of national destinations that actively participate in this segment, such as Puerto Vallarta, Zipolite, Mexico City, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo and Los Cabos.
The IGLTA) is recognized in 1983, is recognized by UN Tourism as the International Reference Agency in the Promotion of LGBTQ+ tourism and creation of inclusive destinations. The event, held in the Pink Zone of the Mexican capital, establishes a historical event because it is the first official intervention of the Association in Mexico.
During the inaugural session, John Tanzella, president of the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), stressed that Mexico is today a consolidated country for LGBT+ travelers and pointed out the purchase potential of the community as an attractive element for the growth of the economy.
And, according to information from the IGLTA, if the purchasing power of the world LGBT+ population was quantified as that of a single nation, it would reach the 4.7 trillion dollars, overcoming the position of countries such as India, Japan and the United Kingdom.
Later, Deputy Jaime López Vela, president of the Diversity Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, reminded those present that the growth of LGBTQ+ tourism that is lived Mexico must be a development engine that benefits both visitors, and the social welfare of the local LGBT+ population.

Although Puerto Vallarta currently leads the national collection of LGBT+travelers, which reports around 2 million visitors and more than 17 thousand MDP of annual revenues, managers and analysts of the present sector agreed that the growth of the so -called pink tourism “is an opportunity for destinations throughout the country, especially in the season from May to July”.
Luis Villaseñor, general director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, said that Vallarta Pride, one of the beach events for the commemoration of LGBT+ pride in the world, will take place for Dogova occasion, from May 17 to 25.
“The Vallarta Pride is planned to receive more than 40 thousand visitors, mostly from the United States and Canada. The official activities agenda contemplates around 22 open events for visitors and premises, ranging from nightlife and concerts on the beach, to sports races and public health days”Villaseñor said.
The official stressed that the organization of an event of this magnitude, which represents the main commitment of fate to maintain national leadership in the collection of LGBT+tourists, “It requires the participation of the public sector, private initiative, social organizations and all groups of the diverse community”.
The Vallarta Pride, headed by the LGBT+ Tourism Association of Destiny, will receive this year support from public institutions such as the Tourism Trust of Puerto Vallarta and the Government of Puerto Vallarta and companies such as the Viva and Unilever airline.
At the first event convened by the IGLTA in Mexico, the governments of Puerto Rico and the city of Dallas also responded, who sent representation delegations, and the Carnival Corporation company, the largest cruise operator in the world.
