After Carlos Salinas de Gortari expressed his complaint about the elimination of pensions for former presidents, President Claudia Sheinbaum declared that she can request her Welfare Pension.
“The majority (of the former presidents), as we have discussed, live outside of Mexico (…), no one has requested their pension and we would not give it to them,” he expressed in his morning conference.
Sheinbaum assured that Salinas de Gortari and any other former president can request the Welfare Pension, as long as they live in Mexico.

“You can request your Welfare Pension, but it is for those who live in Mexico, right? We have not yet extended it, so they would not be able to request it, unless they returned to live in Mexico” Sheinbaum concluded.
‘My name is Carlos Salinas de Gortari and I am unemployed’
Carlos Salinas de Gortari returned to the public eye through the podcast The Invention of North America, produced by Nexos magazine.
The former president shared his vision on the creation of the North American Free Trade Agreement and offered his perspective on the USMCA.
Salinas presented himself as an “unemployed” person and, although he did not directly mention López Obrador, he indicated that this situation was due to the fact that “someone” had withdrawn his presidential pension.
“My name is Carlos Salinas de Gortari and I am unemployed, because I am no longer a pensioner, now that someone has taken away our pensions,” he said.
