President Claudia Sheinbaum commented that she will not get into the issue of the election (or re-election) of the new president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) since it is the task of the senators.
“Let the senate decide. “I am not going to interfere,” commented Sheinbaum Pardo during his morning press conference.
Sheinbaum’s comments are given in the context in which the Senate of the Republic began the commissions for the election.
It should be noted that the current president of the Commission, María Piedra Ibarra, can be re-elected, an issue that some senators and NGOs have rejected.
In this regard, Marko Cortés, senator of the PAN, proposed an initiative for the election of the new administration in the Commission through popular means, since “the CNDH belongs to the people of Mexico.” The possibility is not yet discussed.
Likewise, Ricardo Anaya, senator for National Action, highlighted that Piedra Ibarra has led poor management in the CNDH and pointed out that someone should be elected who is far from the government and does defend the human rights of Mexican society.
