Over 15 years after the original film, Disney has cast its live-action Tangled remake. Princess Rapunzel will be portrayed by Titans alum Teagan Croft, while her paramour Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert will be played by Milo Manheim. Casting for the villainous Mother Gothel is still underway, with Kathryn Hahn rumored to be in consideration.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Manheim shared his excitement about stepping into the beloved role. “Well, I am nervous about a lot of things: I am not going to lie to you,” the actor said. “I really respect Flynn and this movie. It’s one of my favorites. I’m kind of just nervous because I know that everybody loves Flynn, and I am trying to do my best on satisfying what, you know, people are expecting.“
“But in another way, I mean, I can only be true to myself and try to embody the spirit of the cartoon,” he continued. However, fan expectations aren’t the only thing making Manheim anxious about the Tangled remake. The Zombies star then added “I’m also nervous for, like, literally riding horses and jumping on roofs, and like, I am so much less athletic than Disney thinks I am.”
All joking aside, Mainheim wanted one thing to be clear: as nervous as he is, he is excited. “I don’t even want to say [I’m] nervous,” the actor stated. “I think we’re shooting in, like, Spain, so I can’t wait to go explore the world.” In addition to shooting on location, Manheim is enthusiastic about working with Croft, who he calls “fantastic” and a “bundle of sunshine.“
As for any moments he looks forward to recreating, he has a comical yet fun choice. “I think ‘I’ve Got A Dream,’ the scene in the Snuggly Duckling,” said Mainheim. “I can’t wait for all the burly men to be singing about their dreams. Hell yeah!“
Filming for Tangled is reportedly set to start in June of this year, though a release date has not been set. Currently, it is speculated for a potential 2027 theatrical debut, but Disney has not confirmed this.
