The Brazilian president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, announced on Wednesday that he will launch a global commercial offensive in order to search for new markets and replace exports to the United States, sanctioned by the Donald Trump government.
“I already talked to India, with China, with South Africa, and I am going to talk to France, with Germany and with everyone” in order to promote the exterior offers of Brazil, Lula said in a ceremony in which the government announced a package to help exporters affected by 50% tariffs that Trump has imposed on Brazil.
“If the United States does not want to buy us, we sell them to others,” Lula said in a ceremony held at the Planalto presidential palace, in which the support measures to the export sector were presented.
The Brazilian president also announced that “a videoconference is being articulated” between the Member States of the BRICS forum in order to “discuss what we can do to improve the relationship between all countries affected” by tariffs applied by Trump.
Lula returned to reject the arguments that the US president has wielded to justify the sanctions against Brazil, which pass above all and first of all by the trial processed in the Supreme Court against the ultra -rightist leader Jair Bolsonaro, accused of having conspired against Brazilian democracy.
“We do not accept any excuse that we do not respect human rights or that this trial is being arbitrarily,” he said.

Lula announces a commercial offensive to replace Brazil’s exports to the US
According to Lula, in Brazil “what is done in every democratic country is being done. Judge on the basis of evidence, testimonies and with total right to the presumption of innocence.”
He also reiterated that, “if that attack on the Capitol” of the United States had happened in Brazil, in January 2022, “Trump would also be judged” by the courts.
Lula stressed that his government will continue to discuss with the US from the strictly commercial point of view, because it does not want to risk bilateral relations that have “more than 200 years of history”, but assured that “sovereignty is not negotiated.”
However, he did not warm high, declare that “the problem of the United States is not commercial. It is political.”
According to the progressive leader, “what they want (for the United States) is” to destroy that thing called multilateralism, which is what allowed the world to have a more balanced trade, a more harmonious relationship, within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO). “
The US sanctions to Brazil have affected 35% of the country’s exports, which for five years of age has a deficit in its commercial balance with the world’s first economy.
In 2024, the United States received 12% of Brazil’s exports, which added 40.3 billion dollars, while imports from the largest world economy were for 40.5 billion dollars.
