The opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, called on Venezuelans this Saturday to be vigilant until the “transition is completed” in Venezuela and assured that Edmundo González Urrutia “must immediately assume” power in the country, after the United States captured President Nicolás Maduro in the middle of an attack.
Through a statement, shared on his X account, Machado called on Venezuelans who are in his country to be “ready to implement” something that he said he will announce “very soon” through his official channels, without specifying details.
“The time has come for popular sovereignty and national sovereignty to govern in our country. We are going to restore order, free political prisoners, build an exceptional country and bring our children back home,” the Nobel Peace Prize winner promised.
The opponent stated that the United States has “kept its promise to uphold the law” in the face of Maduro’s “refusal” to “accept a negotiated solution.”
“Nicolás Maduro faces international justice today for the atrocious crimes committed against Venezuelans and against citizens of many other nations,” he stressed.

Corina Machado and González Urrutia affirm that these hours are ‘decisive’ for Venezuela
Machado claims the victory of González Urrutia, whom he considers the winner of the presidential elections on July 28, 2024, and rejects the result that gave victory to Maduro.
“This is the time of the citizens (…). Those of us who elected Edmundo González Urrutia as legitimate president of Venezuela, who must immediately assume his constitutional mandate and be recognized as commander in chief of the National Armed Forces by all the officers and soldiers that comprise it,” urged the former deputy.
For his part, González Urrutia addressed the Venezuelans in these hours that he described as “decisive” and said he was ready for the “great reconstruction operation” of Venezuela.
The US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, assured this Saturday that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, will be tried in a federal court in New York and recalled the formal accusation that since 2020 has weighed on the president of the Caribbean country on four charges, including conspiracy to narcoterrorism.
In a message on the Truth Social social network, Trump confirmed today that the US has carried out “successfully a large-scale attack against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country.”
