Nicolás Maduro – investigated by the Chavista National Assembly for a third term in Venezuela, after his questioned re -election last July – received Richard Grenelll, special envoy from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and raised a “zero agenda” with The American government, reported the head of communication of the Caribbean country, Freddy Ñáñez.
According to Washington, the objective of Grenell’s visit is to ensure that Venezuela, which does not maintain diplomatic relations with the US, accepts deportation flights of undocumented migrants and achieve the release of US citizens detained in Venezuelan prisons.

Trump does not recognize Maduro as president of Venezuela
The White House said Friday that President Donald Trump does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as president of Venezuela, despite having commissioned his special envoy from Richard Grenelll to travel to the Caribbean country.
In a press conference, the White House spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, was asked about whether the visit to Venezuela from Grenelll meant recognition as president for Maduro, who swore as president for a third mandate on January 10 after a questioned re-election.
“Absolutely not,” Leavitt replied.
The spokeswoman insisted that the objective of Grenell’s visit is to ensure that Venezuela, which has no diplomatic relations with the United States, accepts deportation flights of undocumented migrants and achieve the release of US citizens arrested in the country.
Washington has faced difficulties in deporting Venezuelans for years due to the deterioration of bilateral relations and, especially, after the diplomatic rupture of 2019 during Trump’s first mandate (2017-2021), when EU recognized the opponent Juan Guaidó as an interim president of Venezuela .
Since then, deportation flights have been scarce. Under the administration of Joe Biden, they briefly resumed in October 2022, but were suspended again four months later.
