Caracas (EFE) .- Nicolás Maduro, who swore for a third term in January after his questioned re-election in Venezuela, said Monday that the imposition of tariffs will be defeated after the US president, Donald Trump, announced that he will impose a 25% tax at countries that buy Venezuelan oil or gas.
“The sanctions of yesterday defeat them and those that come will also defeat them with work (…). They can sanction and put tariffs to what they want. What they will not be able to sanction is the love and patriotism of the Venezuelan people,” Maduro said in an act transmitted by the Venezuelan state television channel (VTV).
He also reiterated that “any disturbance” that is intended “against the recovery” of Venezuela’s economy “will be confronted, controlled and surpassed with National Union.”
“I call all the business, I call the entire working class, I call the entire people of Venezuela to the maximum productive union, work, effort, the result,” said the Chavista leader.
Earlier, Venezuela rejected tariffs imposed by Trump by considering that this decision “flagrantly violates the norms of international trade”, is “arbitrary, illegal and desperate” and, in addition, “confirms the resounding failure of all the sanctions imposed” by the United States against Venezuela.

“Venezuela will exercise all relevant actions before international organizations to enforce their rights and denounce this new violation of the world economic order,” said the administration of Maduro through a statement.
This Monday, Trump announced that “any nation that bought oil and/or gas to Venezuela must pay a 25% tariff to the United States” on “any commercial transaction” that performs with the North American country.
According to a publication on his social network, Truth Social, Trump said that this “secondary tariff” responds to Venezuela has sent to the United States “tens of thousands of high -level criminals and other criminals” in a “intentionally and fraudulent” way.
“Among the bands that have sent to the United States is the Aragua train, which has been designated as ‘foreign terrorist organization’. We are in the process of returning them to Venezuela. It is a huge task!” He added.
In this Monday, Maduro rejected this accusation and described it as “the greatest lie.”
“Do you think it is true and it is fair to say that Venezuela planned an invasion of criminals to the United States? (…) is the greatest lie that has ever been said about our country,” said the Chavista leader.
