The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is one of the most iconic and legendary releases in the already beloved franchise, even beating out Ocarina of Time for many as the best of all time.
Though most people of my age (which I won’t be sharing here) will remember it as an N64 release, the game has returned several times over the years for other Nintendo platforms, including the GameCube, Nintendo Switch (via the Classics Collection) and the oft-maligned Wii U.
Outside of those, Majora’s Mask also received an enhanced remake for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2015, and it’s still one of the best ways to play it. Now, a new texture pack has been released for the 3DS version, and it’s easily the most beautiful version of the game ever.
Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3DS In 4K Is Jaw-Dropping
Over on YouTube, you should be able to find the Henriko Magnifico Showcase channel, where a trailer has been uploaded for the Zelda Majora’s Mask 3D 4K 1.3 Update. This reskins much of the 3DS version of the game with 4K textures, and the difference is immediately noticeable and stark.
The goal of the texture pack is to enhance the game’s visuals while retaining the charm that made it so iconic in the first place. At this point in the process, almost all of the major textures in the game have been remade, with only very minor locations and features remaining in the process.
In even better news, if you’re playing on a display that doesn’t support 4K, the developer has also released a 1080p version, which is still a very healthy 4x better than the original game. It’s also totally compatible with the very popular Project Restoration mod, as well as other custom mods and hacks of Majora’s Mask 3D.
This Texture Pack Is Completely Free
Very excitingly, the texture pack is entirely free to download and available now from the official website, though the very important thing to remember is that this is only available for the 3DS version of the game, with no plans to bring it to the N64 release right now.
To get it working, you’ll need to use the Citra3DS emulator on your PC (or Android), as it’s currently impossible to get it working on the actual 3DS, due to obvious compatibility issues and hardware limitations. As with all emulators, just make sure you already own a copy of Majora’s Mask to keep things above board.
