The toy company Mattel, maker of Barbie, was sued this Tuesday for including the link to a pornographic page on the packaging of some dolls from the movie ‘Wicked’ that it put on sale last November.
Mattel mistakenly included on its dolls the link to the pornographic website Wicked Pictures, which has a title similar to the official page of the film distributed by Universal Pictures and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
This is a class action lawsuit and one of the complainants, Holly Ricketson, indicates that she purchased the product for her minor daughter, who opened the link and saw “full nude pornographic images showing real sexual relations” appear.

According to the complaint, filed in California, Ricketson’s daughter quickly showed her the images “and they were both horrified by what they saw”: “If the plaintiff had been aware of such an inappropriate defect in the product, she would not have purchased it,” underlines.
The complainants ask Mattel for compensation for damages “because the products are adulterated, have no value and are not suitable for the public for which they are intended.”
The toy company, which ended up removing the dolls from the market, issued a statement in November in which it acknowledged “a typographical error” in its packaging and recommended buyers “discard the box or hide the link.”
The controversy, which went viral on social networks, does not seem to have affected the film, which has grossed $360 million worldwide since it was released.
