Netflix’s live action Scooby-Doo is finally taking shape, and while the latest casting news surrounding Mckenna Grace may be shocking for some, it was somewhat of a foregone conclusion for the star. Grace, who most recently starred in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You, was announced to be taking on the role of Daphne Blake. As the first star attached to the project, Grace is setting a fun tone.
At just 19 years old, Grace may be young, but she has proven herself to be a formidable performer on TV and in film. Best known for her roles as a child actor, Grace has branched out in recent years as she’s grown older, taking on roles like Lisa in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

In 2024, years after voicing Young Daphne in 2020’s Scoob!, Grace shared one of her several Halloween costumes on social media. Dressed up in a signature Daphne-style purple dress and green kerchief, Grace wore a red wig while lip-synching to a clip of Daphne for her followers.
Joined by her dog, who was wearing a Scooby-Doo costume of his own, Grace proved she was a perfect fit for the look and feel of the role long before it was hers. While her “prediction” wasn’t a direct one, it’s clear that the role resonates with Grace, who pulled a fun co-star along for the ride when dressing up in her costume years ago.
Mckenna Grace Showed Who Should Play Shaggy In Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Show
Although there’s no other official casting news available about Netflix’s upcoming Scooby-Doo series, Grace seemed to make her own pick as to who should play Shaggy on the series during the same Halloween she dressed up as Daphne. Her Instagram post, which is simply captioned “Jeepers!”, reveals Grace’s Regretting You co-star Mason Thames in a Shaggy costume along with Grace.
Thames, who rose to fame as Finney Blake in 2021’s The Black Phone, and Grace have been rumored to be in a romantic relationship after their time working on Regretting You. While the pair hasn’t commented publicly on the status of their relationship, Grace’s potential endorsement of Thames for the role of Shaggy could be a minor clue to solving fans’ biggest mystery.
Everything We Know About Netflix’s Upcoming Scooby-Doo Series
Although there’s not much known about the upcoming Scooby-Doo series, the Netflix live action re-imagining does have a shape that’s been shared with the public. With an 8-episode order, the series will see Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg as the writers, showrunners, and executive producers along with other big names like Greg Berlanti.
The show’s logline, according to Variety, reveals childhood friends Shaggy and Daphne “get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.” Bringing in the lore of Daphne and Shaggy’s old friendship and the nuance of Velma, a townie, and Fred, a shy guy who’s new to town, the Netflix Scooby-Doo appears to be taking shape.
