The White House proposed to reduce almost half of the NASA budget by 2026, according to media this Friday according to a proposal that the Executive sent to the agency.
This cut of almost 50% would decrease NASA’s total amount by 2026 to 3.9 billion dollars.
“The plan includes two -thirds cuts in astrophysics, up to 487 million dollars; of more than two thirds to Heliophysics, to 455 million dollars; of more than 50% in Earth Sciences, up to 1,033 million dollars; and one of 30% in planetary sciences, up to 1,929 million dollars,” said the specialized portal Ars Technica.

Even so, this proposal is not official, since it has not been sent to Congress, where the two cameras, now with a republican majority, must approve after analyzing it in the different commissions.
Democratic legislator George Whitesides assured the portal that this proposal “will not go ahead.”
“I will work with my colleagues from the Science Committee to make it clear that this would reduce American leadership in space and inflict great damage to NASA centers throughout the country,” he explained.
Some experts point out that this cut would put the agency in a very difficult situation and complicate the permanence of some missions and jobs.
This news is known the same week as the one chosen by the president of the country, Donald Trump, to be the next administrator of the agency, billionaire Jared Isaacman, went to an audience in the Senate before the Chamber votes for or against his candidacy.
In the commission, Isaacman, close to the Magnate Elon Musk, the man behind most of the administration cuts, was in favor of NASA could self -abducted in the future.
In addition, he was very critical of the missions to the Moon: “The Americans have been asking for the Moon on the way to get to Mars since 1989 and more than 100 million have been spent without seeing the planned results.”

The nominee aligned with the interests of the CEO of Tesla and Spacex and defended the plans to take the human being to Mars.
Musk reacted to the news and pointed out that these cuts seemed “worrying.”
“I am very in favor of science, but unfortunately I cannot participate in the discussions about NASA’s budget, because Spacex is an important contractor of the agency,” he added in an X message.
A few weeks ago, his company expanded the contracts he has with the agency to include in its rocket list the huge Space X Starship, the world’s largest space transport vehicle, in addition to other services it already provides.
