Meta has committed to giving Facebook and Instagram users in the European Union a choice when it comes to personalized ads, in line with the EU Digital Markets Act, the European Commission said on Monday.
“Meta will give users the effective choice between consenting to sharing all their data and seeing fully personalized advertising, and opting to share less personal data for a more limited personalized advertising experience,” the Commission said in a statement.

Facebook’s owner was already fined $234 million in April after the EU antitrust enforcer claimed the model violated the DMA from its introduction in November 2023 to November 2024.
