The Mexican Space Agency (AEM) reported that it has a strategy to promote tourism and the space industry in Tamaulipas together with Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya.

The entity is ready to become a “gateway to space,” authorities and personalities agreed at the National Congress of Space Activities CONACES 2024.

The head of Information and Tourism Policy of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), Nathalie Desplas Puel, applauded the CONACES 2024 initiative and recognized the work of the AEM to attract space tourism to Tamaulipas.

The general director of the AEM, Salvador Landeros Ayala, reaffirmed the commitment to work with the Tamaulipas government to make “the desire for space development in that region a reality and transform it into a benchmark for the national space industry.”

He highlighted the importance of Mexico having “the only scientific president in the world and a unique vision to build the second floor of transformation through science, technology and innovation, as well as to consolidate the Mexican space program and thereby promote the well-being of the country.” ”.

“Space is our last frontier, which we can reach with international cooperation. Due to our geographic position, we are a logistical and customs fortress. We have a binational community that benefits from satellite development,” commented the governor.

As an example of the benefit of “cultivating” Mexican ingenuity, the AEM highlighted the case of the Morelos 2 satellite, which when placed in an “inclined orbit”, an innovation calculated by Mexican engineers, managed to prolong its useful life from 9 to 18 years. with a saving of 240 million dollars for the country.

For this reason, the entity committed to promoting the talent and technological capacity of its young people, taking advantage of its proximity to the company SpaceX, the presence in CONACES of its director Kathryn Lueders, and educational and industry programs based on innovation.

“For Tamaulipas, today the space issue is already a reality, and the entity is the best place in the world to attract tourism from people interested in witnessing SpaceX rocket launches,” they concluded.
