President Donald Trump will not impose his new global tariff rate of 10% on the goods from Mexico and Canada, while his previous order is still valid for rates of up to 25% on many goods in the two countries in relation to border control and fentanyl traffic, according to an informative sheet of the White House published on Wednesday.
“For Canada and Mexico, existing orders on fentanyl/migration (…) are still in force and are not affected by this order,” says the White House Information Sheet.

“This means that the goods that comply with the TMEC (treated between Mexico, the United States and Canada) will continue to see a 0%tariff, the goods that do not meet the TMEC will see a 25%tariff, and the energy and potassa that do not meet the TMEC will see a 10%tariff.”
In the event that existing orders of fentanyl/migration are terminated, the goods that comply with the TMEC would continue to receive preferential treatment, while the goods that do not comply with the TMEC would be subject to a reciprocal tariff of 12%, the document said.
