The Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement that the plant, with a joint investment of 51 million dollars, will produce 100 million sterile cups of barely cattle worm per week once finished in the first half of 2026.
Mexico will contribute 30 MDD and the US government 21 MDD, said the Mexican Federal Administration.

According to the technical project, the 100 million sterile insects planned per week, will add the 100 million that are currently produced from the plant located in Panama.
The new plant will have a level of BIOSAGURITY BSL-2, which, according to the Mexican government, guarantees that there will be no escape from fertile insects before they pass through the irradiation area, a process that cancels its reproductive capacity.
The installation will be located in the old breeding and sterilization of the Mediterranean fly, located in Metapa de Domínguez, Chiapas.
The plague, which is capable of infesting the cattle and wildlife and transporting worms that are introduced into the skin of living animals causing already often mortal damage, has caused alarm between the producers and governments of Mexico and the United States.
At the end of June, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the gradual reopening of cattle imports, bison and horses from Mexico after prolonged closure because of the plague.
The ports will be reopened in phases from July 7, starting with Douglas, Arizona, which according to the USDA constitutes the point of entry of lower risk due to its location and the “long history of effective collaboration” between the authorities of Sonora and the Zoosanitary and Phytosanitary Inspection Service of the USDA.
