The Mexican Institute of Public Accountants (IMCP) did not rule out that the Mexican economy will experience a recession phase in 2025, like the one registered in the first year of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2019, due to the distrust generated by constitutional changes and the investor uncertainty about Donald Trump’s management.

“We are going to have an economy with very low growth, we could even have a recession phase, which is not a financial crisis like that of 2008 or 1995,” said Ernesto O’Farrill Santoscoy, president of the organization’s Economic Analysis Commission. .

“You do see something similar to what happened in the first year of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government,” said the economist.

“Yes, there is a significant slowdown in economic activity. The data we have regarding industrial activity for October 2024 shows a fall of 0.3 percent annually. And it is a strong fall,” he commented.

“Everything seems to indicate that consumption is also showing a slowdown, despite all the social programs and remittances,” he added.

“In 2025 there is a cut in budget spending and starting January 20 we will have Donald Trump, with Republican control of the State Congress, which will cause great uncertainty,” he indicated.

“The impact that the Congress of the Union has had on the institutional framework with the approval of the reform of the Judicial Branch and the disappearance of autonomous organizations contributes to a climate of mistrust,” he considered.

He added that the insecurity conditions in the country are once again the main obstacle for the Mexican economy, according to an analysis.

In second place was corruption, followed by legal uncertainty, while availability of financing and lack of capital fell to fourth and fifth place, respectively.
