Yucatan was located as the most peaceful state in the country, according to the Mexico 2025 Peace Index, prepared by the Institute for Economics and Peace, with violence indicators even lower than international standards.
The entity observes the lowest indicators regarding the Homicide, Violent Crimes, Crimes with Firearms, Fear of Violence and Organized Crime.
In this way the State remains, for the eighth consecutive year, as the most peaceful in the country, however, the change of state administration last year.
Since the creation of the index, Yucatan has constantly recorded the lowest homicide rate in the country. In 2024, its rate of 2.2 deaths per hundred thousand inhabitants, was more than ten times less than the national rate of 23.3.
In addition, for the sixth consecutive year, the entity presents the lowest rate of crimes committed with firearms in Mexico. With just 0.6 incidents for every one hundred thousand inhabitants, its rate was 39 times lower than the national rate.
Thus the State had the lowest general homicide rate in the country last year, and only 11.8 percent of these murders were perpetrated with firearms, the lowest national proportion.
Likewise, Yucatan leads the highest rates of missing people who are eventually located alive, with more than 90 percent of cases since 2010.
The Mexico 2025 Peace Index also reveals that some states have managed to maintain comparatively low rates of family violence and sexual violence in recent years.
Thus, in 2024, Tlaxcala and Yucatán registered the lowest rates of the country in both subindicators, but the second has also shown the greatest improvement, both relative and absolute, in both subindicators since 2015.
In 2024, the State occupied second place, with a fear rate of 30.6 percent, according to the report of the Institute for Economics and Peace.
For its part, Mérida, registered the lowest homicide rate among all state capitals, with approximately 1.8 homicides per hundred thousand inhabitants.
The Government of the Mayan Renaissance stressed that security is a fundamental pillar for the development of the State, so it continues to implement measures and actions to consolidate the peace and tranquility that distinguishes Yucatan.
An example of this has been the investment, of around 800 million pesos in the last six months in terms of security, an amount that includes the delivery of 169 fully equipped patrols for the municipalities of the State, which will allow to improve their operational capabilities and, above all, the protection of its inhabitants.
In that sense, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena has reiterated his commitment to continue working on the construction of a state where peace and justice prevail, through greater equipment, patrols and training for the elements of the corporation.
“For us, in this government, where our project is called the Mayan Renaissance and intends, with development works, generate the economic growth of the State, it would not be possible that we can enjoy it if we do not have the security, tranquility and social peace in which the Yucatecans who were born here and the Yucatecans who have adopted this beautiful land to be the home of their children,” he said at the time.
