This Wednesday, the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles is searching for fellow citizens affected by the fires that have intensified in southern California, in the United States, which have so far left two dead, although for now no Mexican victims are reported.

“So far, we have not received information about national victims of the fire. The Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles is responding to all calls and visits to the shelters installed by local authorities,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said in a statement.

Moments earlier, US authorities confirmed that at least two civilians have died in one of the four fires ravaging Los Angeles and that are advancing out of control, driven by a wind storm of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

In the morning, a third outbreak aggravated the situation of the fires that keep part of the Californian city in a state of emergency, with at least 30,000 people evacuated and thousands of firefighters mobilized due to the threat of the flames reaching residential areas.

The SRE stated that “the dissemination of contact from the consulate to attend to any emergency has been strengthened” in Los Angeles, considered the city with the most Mexicans outside of Mexico, with at least 1 million inhabitants of Mexican origin.

“Several calls have been received to the consulate’s protection telephone numbers; all asking for guidance on the actions that should be taken,” reported the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

To the fires declared on Tuesday in Pacific Palisades and Eaton Canyon, which have already consumed more than 1,500 hectares, a third fire in Hurst was added in the last few hours, which has affected about 200 hectares so far, according to official sources.

The origin of the flames is under investigation and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a state of emergency on Tuesday afternoon.
