EFE.- The technology company Microsoft plans to invest 80,000 million dollars in data centers to train artificial intelligence (AI) models and develop cloud applications in the fiscal year of 2025, which ends in June, according to the company. on his blog this Friday.

More than half of the planned spending on this artificial intelligence infrastructure will be made in the United States, demonstrating its “commitment” to this country and “confidence in the American economy,” according to Microsoft president and author of the publication, Brad Smith.

“The United States is leading the global race in artificial intelligence thanks to private capital investment and innovations from American companies of all sizes, from dynamic start-ups to well-established companies,” said Smith.

The president of the technology company recalled in the publication the company’s association with OpenAI, in which it invested $13 billion, and with emerging companies such as Anthropic and xAI, in addition to its own AI-enabled software platforms and applications.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which launched in late 2022, kicked off the AI race for companies to offer their own generative AI applications.

Microsoft’s capital expenditures increased 5.3% to $20 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, and are expected to increase sequentially in the fiscal second quarter, Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood said in a statement. October.

The Trump administration may strengthen AI

Smith assures in the publication that the incoming Trump administration can reinforce elements such as investments in product development and the transfer of ideas from universities to the private sector, based on the performance of the Republican’s first term.

In 2019, the then-president approved an executive order to strengthen US leadership in artificial intelligence, with a focus on federal investments in AI research and access to federal data and computing resources.

“Five years later, President Trump and Congress should expand these efforts to support advancing America’s leadership in AI,” Smith said.

Regarding China, it stands out that is starting to offer developing countries “subsidized access to scarce chips and promises to build local AI data centers.”

“The Chinese wisely recognize that if a country standardizes on China’s AI platform, it is likely to remain dependent on that platform in the future.”

However, he also recognizes that “the best response for America is not to complain about the competition, but to make sure we win the race ahead of us.”

Smith emphasizes that to win this race they will have to act quickly and effectively to promote American artificial intelligence as “a superior alternative.”
