Mike Flanagan sets his television future in a new multi-year deal for Carrie‘s streaming home and several more series.

The famed horror filmmaker was previously under an exclusive overall deal with Netflix, under which he created, wrote, produced, served as showrunner, and directed some if not all episodes of series such as The Haunting of Hill House (2018), The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), Midnight Mass (2021), The Midnight Club (2022), and The Fall of the House of Usher (2023).

Now, per Deadline, Mike Flanagan has signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios, under which he will develop original series exclusively for the studio, including an adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie for Prime Video, his first series under the new partnership.

Based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel of the same name, following Brian De Palma’s famous 1976 film adaptation, Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV series is described as a “reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White (played by Summer H. Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother (Samantha Sloyan).”

After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers,” according to the official synopsis. The cast also includes Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Joel Oulette, Alison Thornton, Arthur Conti, Josie Totah, Matthew Lillard, and Thalia Dudek.

Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, Heather Graham, Tahmoh Penikett, Ruth Codd, Crystal Balint, Danielle Klaudt, Mapuana Makia, Rowan Danielle, Naika Toussaint, Delainey Hayles, and Cassandra Naud also appear in recurring roles.

Mike Flanagan is one of the most frequent adapters of Stephen King’s work, having directed the films Gerald’s Game (2017), Doctor Sleep (2019), and The Life of Chuck (2024). Mike Flanagan is also currently developing The Dark Tower as a series for Prime Video and a film adaptation of The Mist, based on Stephen King’s 1980 novella.

With the Carrie series recently wrapping production, Mike Flanagan’s next project is The Exorcist movie, which he is writing, directing, and producing for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series is expected to premiere on Prime Video in October 2026.
