EFE.- Republican Mike Johnson became president of the United States House of Representatives this Friday with the 218 Republican votes he needed, after negotiating in the same plenary session the change of the two votes of his colleagues on the bench that he needed to renew his mandate in the first vote.

Johnson obtained 218 votes in favor compared to 215 for Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic candidate for whom everyone voted en bloc, but at first he did not have the necessary votes, so he had to negotiate a change in the direction of the vote of two congressmen. after a first voice vote.

When the first round ended, the Republican had 216 votes, as three of his fellow Republicans had voted for another candidate.

For about half an hour, the House session was paused, but with the vote open waiting for one of those congressmen to change the direction of their vote. It was then that Johnson was seen leaving the chamber with two of the Republicans who had not voted for him.

Precisely, it was these two congressmen, Keith Self and Ralph Norman, who changed their vote and supported the candidate and avoided a unity crisis on the day a new legislature begins, with Republican dominance.

On the other hand, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie, who was seen speaking on the phone with Marjorie Taylor Greene as an intermediary (who supported Johnson), maintained his dissenting vote, as he had announced weeks ago on his social networks.

Johnson, who had the support of President-elect Donald Trump, thus renews his role as leader of the House of Representatives and second person in the presidential line of succession, after the vice president.
