The Government of Javier Milei clarified this Monday that it did not hinder the final declaration of the G20 Leaders’ summit, despite the fact that it does not accompany the points linked to the 2030 Agenda, but asked to recognize that the international cooperation system is “in crisis.”

The Argentine Government “signed the declaration of presidents, partially disassociating itself from all content linked to the 2030 Agenda,” announced a statement from the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic (OPRA).

“Without hindering the declaration of the other leaders,” Milei “has made it clear that in his participation in the G20 that he does not support several points of the declaration,” the statement explained.

Among the points that Milei does not support, he mentions “the promotion of the limitation of freedom of expression on social networks”, “the scheme of imposition and violation of the sovereignty of global governance institutions”, the “unequal treatment before law” and the “notion that state intervention is the way to fight hunger.”

“If we want to fight hunger and eradicate poverty, the solution is to run to the middle state,” OPRA stated.

Milei recommended “deregulating economic activity” to facilitate the market and free trade, and that the exchange of goods and services “be what brings prosperity,” because he believes that “free market capitalism” is what has already taken out 90 % of the population in extreme poverty and life expectancy doubled.

The statement from the Milei Government recognizes that international organizations and forums such as the G20 were created in the spirit of safeguarding the basic rights of people.

“Today, almost 70 years after this system of international cooperation was inaugurated, the time has come to recognize that this model is in crisis, because it has long lacked its original purpose,” he stated.
