Acapulco, Guerrero.- Pedro Rivero González, president of the Mining Chamber of Mexico (Camimex), stated that mining plays a key role in the growth of the Mexican economy and in the TMEC.
“Fully recognizing mining in the USMCA as a key sector is not a corporate issue: it is a matter of economic security for the region,” he said within the framework of the XXXVI International Mining Convention 2025, Mining united by Mexico.

“Mining will strengthen the Made in Mexico project and highlight the pride of being a mining country, with an industry that is conscious, innovative and committed to its environment,” said the businessman.
“Recently a very intelligent man whom I respect a lot told us: Mining is in fashion,” he noted.
“Today, at this convention, we will have the opportunity to demonstrate that our industry will transcend fashion, and we hope to ensure that it resumes its role in the public imagination as what it is: the primary activity that is the beginning of any industrial chain,” he declared.
Mining is a sector that “today more than ever has a strategic role for Mexico and North America.”
The businessman recognized the work of Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, for strengthening a “responsible economy, with certainty and a vision of the future.”
Until December 2024, the mining industry in Mexico directly employed 416,663 direct jobs and generated almost 1,500,000 indirect jobs.
Additionally, in 2024 it contributed 2.77 percent of GDP and 8.70 percent of industrial GDP.
Pedro Rivero González said that returning to Acapulco has a special meaning: “Two years ago this port faced the devastating impact of Hurricane Otis, so the mining community was here from day one, doing what we know how to do: working with discipline, coordination and a spirit of solidarity.”
“Coming back today confirms something that defines us, when mining comes together, communities also rise up,” he noted.
“When there is investment there is progress, when there is progress there is a people that lives better,” said Avelina López, mayor of Acapulco.
Mining is an activity that is born from the land and human effort, since it opens and creates economic growth as is happening in Guerrero, he commented.
Mining drives social and economic development in 73 communities in Guerrero, said the mayor.

“Acapulco continues to be the meeting point and platform for investment, which is why we welcome the mining industry with open arms,” concluded Avelina López.
