Starting next January 9, all mobile telephone lines must be associated with a natural or legal person, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT) reported this Monday.
The measure is part of the guidelines approved this Monday for the identification of mobile telephone lines, and which seeks to eliminate the anonymity that allows the service to be used to commit crimes.
The new regulation formalizes the registration already carried out by telephone operators for the postpaid service, and is aligned with international best practices to restore confidence in cellular telephony, according to a statement from the regulator.
He assured that the information will be protected by the operators and the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties will be complied with.
The guidelines establish that the identity documents to associate telephone lines with a natural person will be a voter ID or passport and CURP. In addition, legal entities must present their Federal Taxpayer Registry.
The authority indicated that with the guidelines it fulfills its mandate to focus its efforts for the benefit of the people, after listening to the telecommunications industry and incorporating the results of the public consultation.
