The coordinator of the Morena bench in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, acknowledged that the Telecommunications Reform Initiative proposed by President Claudia Sheinbaum contains provisions that must be reviewed before being approved, in accordance with a note from the website of reform.

Although he avoided giving details not to “exhibit” anyone, the legislator said he already shared his observations with some senators and trusted that modifications will be made that strengthen the project.

“I made some observations, I do not want to comment, because if they do not pass, I do not want to exhibit either, or expose anyone, but I spoke with several senators about 20 minutes ago and I told them that there were simply some provisions that they had to review,” he explained in a press conference.

Questioned about the accusations of President Sheinbaum, who during her morning conference acknowledged that one of the sections could be interpreted as an act of censorship, the legislator hoped that the senators modify the proposal for the benefit of transparency and freedom of expression.

Even so, the deputy did not rule out the possibility that the initiative is approved without modifications, remembering that he represents only one voice between 500 legislators.

This morning, the reform was endorsed in commissions of the Senate, with the aim of being discussed and, eventually, approved by the Plenary before the ordinary session end, on April 30.

Monreal said that it will be proposed that the Chamber of Deputies session Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week to speed up its discussion.

Finally, the coordinator reported that he already distributed the content of the initiative among the members of his bench, so that there is enough time for the analysis and internal debate before his vote in the plenary.
