Greatness is an aspiration that few manage to achieve. Monte Xanic has done it for 30 years with Gran Ricardo, an elegant wine of oenological precision that combines tradition and innovation.

The meticulous care in the selection of its grapes, the obsession to attend to every detail in its process and the mastery over the challenge of making it each year demonstrates that great, over time, becomes exceptional.

“Gran Ricardo represents the spirit of courage that united the dream of the founders of Monte Xanic by betting on Mexican wine. Each bottle is a testament to the care and obsession we put into each vintage. It is a tribute to tradition in a wine that reflects the exceptionality of our terroir. We have shared this journey with all lovers of good wine, those who risk living and believing that anything is possible,” commented Hans Backoff, General Director of Monte Xanic.

Monte Xanic celebrates Gran Ricardo, the great wine of Mexico, with a series of activities that include vertical tastings led by Hans Backoff, General Director of Monte under the name “Tribute to Mexico”.

For this anniversary, the Mexican artist Magali Lara has created a work that proposes an approach to the landscape and the organic elements that are part of the winemaking process, exploring nature from a feminine vision, as a counterpoint to the masculine imprint of Gran Richard. For the artist, the work titled “Animation” captures the vital movement of the vineyards and captures the time dedicated to production, symbolizing the constant search for excellence in this great wine, thus reflecting the distinctive energy of Monte Xanic.

With this proposal, Gran Ricardo adds its fifth edition of art, having in its Collection of Contemporary Mexican Art several artists such as Livia Corona, Jorge Méndez Blake, Sofía Táboas and Pablo Vargas.

Gran Ricardo was created in 1994 and since then it represents the most select of Monte Xanic’s wine offerings. Conceived in honor of one of the founders of Monte Xanic, Ricardo Hojel, this high-end wine has received multiple awards in international competitions, earning the reputation of the most distinguished wine in Mexico. It is the greatest exponent of Mexican wine in its category, standing out for its personality, character and high aging potential (+25 years).

Its preparation is an artisanal work. Each cluster and berry is selected manually. Subsequently, the pre-fermentative cold maceration technique is applied for five days, and post-fermentative fermentation for eight days. Finally, it rests for 18 months in new French oak barrels.

This wine is born from the essence of the Guadalupe and Ojos Negros Valleys, cradle of grapes grown under a Mediterranean climate. Gran Ricardo unfolds with richness and depth, where black cherry, currant, blackberries, blackberry, raspberry and violet flowers dance in a fruity and floral harmony. They are intertwined with elegant notes of rosemary, cloves, eucalyptus, black and white pepper.

Additionally, traces of oak, a flash of dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, nutmeg and balsamic notes are revealed that add layers of complexity to the aroma. On the palate, it is sober and full-bodied, unctuous and enveloping, with balance and elegance, unfolding tannins that are like pure silk and a body that embraces the soul.
