The businessman and founder of the aerospace company Space

During a talk with the president of the asset manager Blackrock, Larry Fink, at the World Economic Forum, Musk assured that the technology that would allow building such an infrastructure already exists, and all that is missing is the will to implement it.

In China, he explained, they already have solar plants that produce 540 gigawatts per year, so it is not unreasonable to think that if a plant of a few hundred square kilometers is installed “in some sparsely populated area of Spain or Sicily”, it could provide energy to all of Europe.

In the United States, he said, such a plant could be “somewhere in the Nevada desert, or in Utah, or in New Mexico.”

Soon there will be ‘more robots than people’: Musk in Davos

The businessman was convinced that in a short time “there will be more robots than people”, which in practice will raise the quality of life, and he said that soon, almost certainly by the end of next year, he will put safe and reliable humanoid robots on sale for individuals.

These robots can help, for example, in caring for the elderly and dependent people, in a world in which there are fewer and fewer young people to care for the elderly.

“Everyone will want to have one, to take care of pets or the elderly, who wouldn’t want something like that?” he indicated, after ensuring that we are “in the most interesting moment in the history of humanity.”

Regarding aging, Musk explained that reversing it was not one of his objectives, although he was convinced that the time will come when the aging of the human body can be stopped.

However, he indicated that this would mean that society would “stagnate,” with people living almost forever, and would not be renewed.

Musk believes AI can surpass human intelligence soon

Regarding the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI), he declared that very soon, in 2030 or 2031, “it will effectively be more intelligent than any human being”, which does not mean that people are expendable.

The businessman has dedicated much of his time to talking about extraterrestrial life, of which there is still no evidence, although he believes that “if there is any extraterrestrial on Earth, it is me,” amid laughter from the audience.

Or he would be the first to know of its existence, since Space X has more than 9,000 satellites.

Musk said that his interest in space comes from his love of science fiction novels, and his desire for them to “stop being fiction and become reality,” something that is getting closer and closer.

Something that is still extremely difficult, such as “bringing energy from space to Earth”, is not viable at the moment but little by little the necessary technology is arriving.

Musk revealed his desire to travel to Mars, although the duration of the trip, “six months there and as many back,” is a bit of a deterrent, in addition to the fact that he hopes to reach Mars “but not crash.”
