Each season sees the eponymous gang extend their operations, with season 2 following their move into the North of England, where they inevitably encounter resistance from local criminals.
Season 3 saw the gang take on international operations, with characters like the Russian Grand Duchess Tatiana Petrovna proving just how far from their humble origins the Birmingham gang had grown. Season 4 involved the New York Mafia and even saw Tommy enter Parliament, while seasons 5 and 6 were focused primarily on the buildup to World War II.
With such an expansive scope and a large cast, it would have been easy for this series to lose the original narrative thread that made the show so compelling in the first place. However, Murphy’s turn as Tommy Shelby ensured that this never happened, with Peaky Blinders remaining a taut, tense, and compelling drama throughout.
The original series ended with the release of its sixth season in April 2022, bringing a successful nine-year run to a close with a final, critically acclaimed outing. However, like any good Netflix franchise, the show wasn’t content to end after only one release, and as early as 2021, creator Steven Knight had teased the possibility of a movie spinoff.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man Brings The Franchise Back
In 2024, it was confirmed that a Peaky Blinders movie was in the works, with Murphy’s return as Shelby announced soon after. Now, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is set to arrive in cinemas and on Netflix in March 2026, bringing back Murphy and introducing Barry Keoghan to the stacked cast of the franchise.
Series supporting star Stephen Graham is also set to reprise his role as dockworker Hayden Stagg, while Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth join Keoghan as fellow franchise newcomers. Not much is known about the story of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, except that the spinoff movie will take place during World War II.
Tommy’s loyalties will be split between his family and his business, with Murphy’s tortured mob boss forced to confront his complex identity as an Irish Romani person in Britain during one of the most tumultuous eras in the country’s history. Ferguson’s Peaky Blinders character seems to be a fellow Romani character, meaning the spinoff could explore Tommy’s heritage in more depth.
However, this will likely take a backseat to the driving action of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which seems to be the relationship between Keoghans’ Duke Shelby and Tommy. Ever since Keoghan was cast, the nature of his role was hotly debated among fans online, and it was recently confirmed that Keoghan will be playing Tommy’s “Troubled” son, Duke.
With award-worthy performances in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Saltburn, Keoghan has proven himself to be one of the most promising actors of his generation. As such, seeing him spar with Murphy, especially when the pair has such diametrically opposed screen personae, should be a treat for fans.
Peaky Blinders Is One Of Netflix’s Most Underrated Franchises
As evidenced by a glance at the iTunes charts in February 2026, Peaky Blinders is consistently among the most-watched titles in Netflix’s massive library of TV shows. However, despite this, the series is rarely mentioned alongside the likes of Wednesday or Stranger Things as one of the biggest franchises in Netflix’s history.
Despite its A-list cast and acclaim, Peaky Blinders receives less credit for its longevity than more recent viral hits like Graham’s crime drama Adolescence. This is striking considering how well the show managed to expand its world with each season and how consistently critically acclaimed the series was throughout its run.
