With the promise to “clean up” the Judiciary, the nine ministers and ministers of the new Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), the first chosen by popular vote, received on Monday the basts of command and service of indigenous peoples and the Afro -Mexican community in the Zocalo of the capital.

“We are the ministers and ministers of the people, because we have fulfilled and we are here in the mandate of article 39 of the Constitution (…) and we have a clear mandate: to sanitize the Judiciary,” said the indigenous of Mixteco origin Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, who will be the new president of the highest court for the first two years.

At the shout of “Long live the town, live Aguilar Ortiz!” chanted by an audience that exceeded the hundreds of attendees -mainly representing the original peoples of the north, central and southern Mexico -an unpublished chapter for Mexican Justice was inaugurated, in which Aguilar promised promised that “corruption, nepotism and dishonesty will end”.

“The vote they deposited at the urn on July 1 will have results (…) As of today we will work tirelessly for a new justice model,” said the next president of the Court on the last judicial elections, in which 881 judges were elected for 13 million voters.

Aguilar stressed that “without the judicial reform”-impulsed by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) and headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum-“indigenous peoples would not have the presence that we are having in the public life of the country today.”

“Just a year ago it was unimaginable that its server, as indigenous and as people of the people, despite the studies, despite the work, despite the media, they were today talking to them in the position of Minister of the SCJN. Give power to the people frees the people,” he emphasized in a wave of applause and supported messages chanted in the Mixtec language.

In his speech, the 52 -year -old mixtec lawyer reviewed the history of Mexico, in which he put his finger in the conquest and the arrival of the Spaniards, who, he said, “declared these practically uninhabited lands (…) that the Indians did not have a soul and, therefore we had no legal status to act in public life.”

Among the crowd, collective of seeking mothers raised their canvases with the names of their disappeared and demanded justice in a country with more than 130,000 people not located.

The protest session in the Senators’ Senators is expected to attend Sheinbaum, who during his first government report, also held on Monday, pointed out that the constitutional reform to the Judiciary is one of the most “important” and with which the “era of nepotism, corruption and privileges” is ended.
