The new governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, promised to return peace to the country’s southern border, which is immersed in a wave of violence, in his first speech after taking office.
“Peace will once again reign on our roads,” said the president, who assured that, with “clarity, experience and courage,” he will assume the responsibility of carrying out the initiatives proposed by the federal government.
Ramírez Aguilar focused his speech on the fight against impunity and asked the new Secretary of Public Security, Óscar Aparicio, and the State Attorney General’s Office to coordinate efforts to combat crimes.
“Zero impunity for crime, zero impunity for crime. “Ask them to (address) everything where the crime of extortion, property rights, highway robbery and other crimes that hurt the people exist, we go with everything,” he concluded.
In addition, he assured that the state’s security forces will be strengthened, through an improvement in salaries and equipment, and it will be guaranteed that the security forces have the necessary resources to face current challenges.
To this end, he announced the creation of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force, which will be deployed in various parts of Chiapas with a highly trained and well-paid team.
Regarding infrastructure, the state president presented the Palenque-San Cristóbal de Las Casas highway project, which will have an extension of 153 kilometers and will benefit several municipalities in the state.
The project, in its first stage, will begin in 2025 with the active participation of local communities.
“This road will not be concessioned to private initiative. The booths, gas stations and tourist inns will be managed by the communities,” he explained.
The president also addressed the importance of the southern border of Chiapas, especially in relation to international trade policies, given the recent changes in relations with the United States.
For this reason, he announced that the declaration of the southern border of Chiapas as a tax-free zone is being managed, an opportunity for the economic development of the region.
Finally, he mentioned the efforts in terms of ecological restoration, and said that, starting in January 2025, a watershed restoration project will begin throughout the state; this effort seeks to recover vegetation and improve the climate.
However, another important axis is education, which is why he called on teachers and parents to join together to ensure that thousands of boys and girls learn to read and write. This set of measures reflects a firm commitment to peace, development and sustainability in Chiapas.
The arrival of the new governor occurs after various civil organizations and residents have pointed out the month of November 2024 as one of the most violent in recent years in Chiapas, with figures that continue to increase and reflect the ineffectiveness of the authorities to stop crime.
The inhabitants of rural and urban areas of Chiapas have expressed their growing distrust in the three levels of government, considering that the authorities are not taking effective measures to guarantee their safety and the administration of justice.
