Alpine is one of the top luxury markets in the Garden State, but a recent sale has the community soaring to heights not seen in years.

Chateau de la Roche, a custom megamansion at 48 Rio Vista Drive, traded hands for $17.7 million, Mansion Global reported. The transaction represented New Jersey’s most expensive sale in three years.

The trade of the Versailles-style chateau closed on Tuesday. The deal breaks down to $689 per square foot.

David and Mindy Kwon were the sellers, who have owned the property since purchasing the vacant land in 2011 for nearly $4 million. They put the property up for sale for $25 million in 2021 and dropped it by $2.5 million two years ago, where it sat until its sale.

The identity of the buyer was not disclosed.

The seven-bedroom, 10.5 bathroom home spans 25,700 square feet and was built in 2017. Features include a two indoor plunge pools, a sauna, a steam room, a conservatory, a 15-seat theater, a billiards room, a wine cellar, two bars, an elevator, a gas fireplace and a central-vacuuming system. There’s also a wood-paneled library with a fireplace, a grand central staircase and a four-car garage, as well as a swimming pool and spa on the grounds.

Zampolin & Associates Architects designed the residence across its two acres.

Christie’s Mahwah-Saddle River Sales Gallery’s Denise Albanese performed double duty, representing the sellers while also designing the property’s interiors. Richard Orlando and Jason Pierce of Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty and Taylor Lucyk of Christie’s International Real Estate Group represented the buyers.

While the Kwons’ sale was a high watermark in the state, it may soon not even be the most expensive sale on the street.

Avraham Tahari, co-founder of Elie Tahari, is looking to sell his 21,000-square-foot home at 31 Rio Vista Drive for $25 million. The eight-bedroom home has both an indoor and outdoor pool, an outdoor kitchen and a barbecue area.
