New York City’s Top Retail Leases in October

The contest for the largest retail lease in the five boroughs was a pretty tight race last month, even featuring the rare tie for first place. Both of the leases that managed to secure the top spot on this list also happened to be in the same building, but which development hosted the two largest retail leases of October? Read on to find out.

1) Convene Hospitality Group | 261 11th Avenue | Chelsea | 50,000 sf

The event company signed a new lease in the Chelsea building. Rocco Laginestra of CBRE represented the tenant, while a 5-member Cushman & Wakefield team including Alan Schmerzler and Catherine Merck represented the landlords, Columbia Property Trust, L&L Holding and Cannon Hill Capital Partners.

1) Equinox | 261 11th Avenue | Chelsea | 50,000 sf

The gym signed a new lease in the same Chelsea building. This Equinox lease and the CHG lease above represent some of the first leases in the new redevelopment by Columbia Property Trust, L&L Holding and Cannon Hill Capital Partners.

2) Chelsea Piers Management | 200 Varick Street | Soho | 48,800 sf

The tenant, which manages the Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex, signed a new 29-year lease in the Soho building owned by GFP Real Estate. 

3) Burlington Stores | 72-22 Broadway | Jackson Heights | 42,600 sf

The retailer inked a new lease in the Jackson Heights building. The new location is scheduled to open in September 2028. Clifford Simon, David Rosen and Jake Simon of CNS Real Estate represented the tenant, while Adam Heller, Stephen Weber and Joshua Singer of the Heller Organization represented the landlord, Werber Real Estate.

4) New York City Charter School of the Arts | 241 Water Street | Financial District | 34,500 sf

The educational institution signed a new 31-year lease in the Financial District building, where it plans to relocate from its current space at 26 Broadway. Ira Schuman and Joe Byrnes of Savills represented the tenant, while Peter Whitenack of Newmark represented the landlord, 241 Water Street Holdings.

5) Din Tai Fung | 567 Fulton Street | Brooklyn Heights | 20,000 sf

The famed (and Michelin-starred) Taiwanese dumpling house inked a new lease in the Brooklyn Heights building. Chris DeCrosta of GoodSpace represented the landlords, Witkoff and Apollo Global Management.

6) Callen-Lorde | 555 Bergen Avenue | Morrisania | 17,200 sf

The LGBTQ health nonprofit inked a new lease in the Morrisania building. Carri Lyon and Jenna Catalon of Cushman & Wakefield represented the tenant, while Joe and David Jemal of ISJ Management represented the landlord in-house.

7) Ivy Prep Early Learning Academy | 17-19 Hylan Boulevard | Dongan Hills | 15,500 sf

The day care center signed a new lease in the Dongan Hills building. Michelle Abramov and Greg Batista of Ripco Real Estate represented the landlord, RCM Group.

8) STK | 412 West 15th Street | Chelsea | 12,200 sf

The steakhouse signed a new lease in the Chelsea building. Steven Soutendijk, Kenji Ota and Neil Seth of Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord, Rockpoint.

9) Selene by Kyma | 23 Grand Street | Soho | 10,000 sf

The restaurant inked a new lease in the Soho building. Justin Bustamante of Meridian Capital Group represented the tenant, while James Famularo and Jacob Mayer of Meridian Capital Group represented the landlord, Thor Equities.

10) Max Deals | 1562 Fulton Street | Bedford-Stuyvesant | 9,800 sf

The discount store inked a new lease in the Bedford-Stuyvesant building. Richard Senior and Esther Bukai of Ripco Real Estate represented both the tenant and the landlord, BRP Companies.
