The Trump administration is using artificial intelligence (AI) to track and monitor immigrants in general, but above all refugees and asylum seekers, as well as those who manifest publicly in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people, Amnesty International warned on Wednesday in a report.
According to this global NGO, the use of this new technologies implies a “risk” for people who meet the aforementioned profiles and, finally, could even suppose their deportation.
Amnesty International stressed that an AI tool of Babel Street, called Babel X, and another from Palantir (Immigration OS) play “a crucial role” in the ability of the authorities to identify people, their behaviors – including their behavior in social networks – and their movements, more quickly already a larger scale to determine if their visas must be revoked.
“The coercive initiative of ‘capture and revoke’, facilitated by AI, threatens to exacerbate the arbitrary and illegal revocations of visa, deportations and violations of a multitude of human rights,” said Erika Guevara Rosas, general director of research, work of incidence, politics and campaigns of Amnesty International in a statement.
The technology Babel Street and Palantir, in the spotlight
The ‘capture and revoke’ initiative, launched by the State Department, monitors social networks to find people “from foreign countries that seem to support Hamas or other recognized terrorist groups” and cancel their visas, according to the partisan and independent Center Brennan.
The Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) uses Babel X at least since 2019 and can collect huge amounts of a person, according to the report of International Amnesty.
For its part, the Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE) uses the Integrated Palantir Case Management System since 2014 and now its new version, Immigration OS, which allows simplifying the process of selecting and apprehension of people and supervising real -time self -exporting.
According to Amnesty International, Immigration automates a process “already very poor and lacking accountability that has a contempt history of due process and human rights.”

“A total contempt” for human rights
It also indicates that the repressive tactics of the government and the summary revocation of the immigration status demonstrate “a total contempt” for human rights, freedom of expression and peaceful meeting.
Amnesty International also ensures that they constitute an obvious violation of the right to equality and non -discrimination, “in which people with visas and refugees are explicit white of the systems driven by AI.”
“This situation has given rise to a pattern of illegal arrests and mass deportations, has created a climate of fear and aggravated the ‘deterrent effect’ for migrant communities and international students,” he deepened.
Last July, Amnesty International contacted Palantir and Babel Street regarding the report, which only Palantir responded and said that her product was not used to boost the government initiative of ‘capture and revoke’, and that they do not violate the rights of migrants.
Amnesty emphasizes, however, that Palantir and Babel Street could have reasonably planned the risk of causing damage to the migrant population and defenders of the Palestinian cause, and having reconsidered the linking of their AI programs with the Trump government.
