Nick Reiner has officially pleaded not guilty after being accused of murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.
The plea came from the Los Angeles Superior Court, according to Variety. The 32-year-old has been charged with two counts of murder, and he could be given the death penalty or life in prison if convicted.
Attorney Kimberly Greene, a deputy public defender, is representing Nick. She’s been a public defender in Southern California for almost 20 years. She took the case after Alan Jackson, the defendant’s first lawyer, stepped down on January 7, 2026.
During the hearing, Nick only spoke to enter his plea, and there was no mention of his mental status. He’ll be held without bail in Los Angeles at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility until further notice.
Nick has previously been transparent about his long battle with drug addiction. He revealed that he went to 18 rehabs from the age of 15 to 19.
On Anna David’s podcast, Recovery Rocks, he said, “I was insane” before throwing a rock through a window.
Rob and Michele were found in their Brentwood, California, home on December 14, 2025. Nick was arrested at 9:15 p.m. PST that same night after his sister, Romy, found the bodies.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman called Rob Reiner “one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation.” He continued, “We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.“
Rob was a well-known figure in the entertainment business, known for his on and off-screen work. The late 80s and early 90s allowed his creative juices to thrive as he directed hit movies like Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).
