The Japanese steel Nippon Steel announced Thursday that it will invest 300 million dollars (255 million euros) on two floors of its recently acquired United States Steel (US Steel), with a project to install a recycler in Pennsylvania and another to expand production by modernization of an Indian line.

The package includes a project of about 100 million dollars (85 million euros) for the construction of a slag recycler at the Braddock Edgar Thomson plant (Pennsylvania), pending environmental authorization, and another of about 200 million (170 million euros) to modernize the hot lamination train of the Gary Works facilities (Indiana), the largest complex of Us Steel, said the company In a statement

The recycler will allow to reuse by -products of steel manufacturing as cement components, which will contribute to reducing emissions and waste, in addition to generating additional income, while the improvement in Gary Works seeks to optimize costs and expand the steel offer for automotive and high thickness.

These initiatives are part of Nippon Steel’s commitment to invest 11,000 million dollars (9,367 million euros) in the US steel -art, with the aim of modernizing its operations, improving efficiency and reinforcing its production capacity in strategic segments.

Nippon Steel completed in June 2025 the acquisition of United States Steel for about 14.9 billion dollars (12,688 million euros), in an operation that meant the integration of one of the American industrial emblems in the Japanese group.

The Japanese steel one kept the name and headquarters of Us Steel in Pittsburgh, but made the company a strategic subsidiary to reinforce its presence in the largest world market in steel.
