The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said on Wednesday that no nation collaborates both in security with his country and Mexico and thanked the president, Claudia Sheinbaum, for joint work in the field.
“There is no government at this time that it is cooperating with us more in the fight against crime than the Government of Mexico, the President of the President (Claudia) Sheinbaum and we appreciate it very much and there is much to do together,” said the US official during a press conference at the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
Rubio advances an official visit to Mexico, where he held a meeting with Sheinbaum and the Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, in which they addressed issues such as cooperation on various fronts, with special emphasis on the fight against organized crime, at a time when Washington has redoubled its offensive against drug cartels.
The secretary gave credit to the Mexican president because, he said, in his administration, issues have been addressed that were not addressed, “such as the 59 high -level criminals that were required by Washington, faced drug trafficking charges and were transferred to the United States.
The US official explained that the Mexican president has talked about the issue with the US president, Donald Trump, and “a lot has been achieved,” but stressed that they will continue to exchange ideas and cooperate.
“With much respect and admiration for the work they have already done here in Mexico to face these narco -terrorist groups that threaten, not simply to Mexico and the United States, threaten the peace and stability of the world,” said the secretary.
Likewise, Rubio acknowledged that from the United States “there is much to do”, although he clarified that Trump has focused on the crime that is registered within his own country.
As an example, he said, there is the US capital where the Republican president has deployed federal agencies and the National Guard to lower crimes.
“And it continues to occur and (Trump) is willing to do it in other places if necessary also, because we all have problems and that must be faced,” said Rubio.
Finally, the head of American diplomacy said there are many weapons that Mexican cartels buy from the United States, so they have also focused on that issue, a repeated demand by Mexico.
