On Tuesday, the first 2025 national drill will be held with which it seeks to strengthen the population’s ability to respond to an eventual seismic emergency.
Under an earthquake hypothesis 8.1 with epicenter in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, April 29, at 11:30 am (center time) the seismic alert in 11 entities of the country will be activated: Chiapas, Mexico City, Colima, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla and Tlaxcala.
The signal will be broadcast through 14,491 speakers, in addition to radio and television.
In addition, in Mexico City the second alert test via cell phone will be carried out, by sending the message “this is a drill”, which is expected to reach approximately five million mobile phone users. The action is coordinated with the Government’s Digital and Telecommunications Transformation Agency.

President Claudia Sheinbaum called the entire population to actively participate in this first 2025 drill.
In parallel, the Secretary of the Navy will carry out an alert exercise for Tsunami in the Pacific Ocean, as part of the preparation procedures against natural phenomena.
Once the drill is over, the National Emergency Committee will meet, headed by the Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection, Omar García Harfuch, together with the entire legal and expanded cabinet and the participation of governors and governors of the 32 entities of the country.
