Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado affirmed this Thursday that she is in a “safe place,” after the campaign team of candidate Edmundo González Urrutia denounced her “kidnapping” – which was later described as “retention” by her collaborators. – and subsequent release.
The former deputy had participated in a protest in Caracas on the eve of the inauguration of the Presidency.
“I am now in a safe place and with more determination than ever before to continue with you until the end,” the opponent wrote in X.
Machado pointed out that, when the “repressive forces of the regime” detained her, a citizen was “wounded by a gunshot.”
“My heart goes out to the Venezuelan who was shot when the repressive forces of the regime detained me,” he said, while saying that this Friday he will report on what happened during this day.
“Thank you to all the citizens who took to the streets to claim our victory on July 28 and collect it,” he added.

The Command with Vzla, of the Venezuelan majority opposition, denounced the incident, after the opposition leader led a demonstration in Caracas to claim the victory of González Urrutia in the presidential elections of July 28, despite the fact that the official result gave the victory for Nicolás Maduro.

Machado reappeared today after remaining underground for 133 days to lead the opposition mobilization in Caracas, whose call was attended by around a thousand people.
Supported by the electoral authorities, controlled by Chavismo, Maduro is preparing to assume a new mandate on January 10, while González Urrutia claims his victory in the July 28 elections and maintains his desire to claim the Presidency.
