Some drawings of Antoine de Saint-Exupery about “The Little Prince” and the manuscript script of the movie “à Souffle Bout”, which revolutionized French cinema, stand out among the spring auctions announced on Tuesday by Sotheby’s Paris.

The house also announced that it will sell two magnificent works of the Personal Collection of the Brazilian Niomar Moniz: a Giacometti sculpture for a price between 3.5 and 4 million euros and a picasso picture with a appraisal that goes from 1.2 to 1.8 million.

The drawings of Saint-Exupery, fifteen in total, were made by the author in Algiers between 1943 and 1944, many of them during a dinner at the house of their friends Jean and Suzanne Amrouche in early 1944.

Some of the drawings were made in a notebook of Suzanne’s own notes to explain the work, which had been published in 1943 in New York, simultaneously in English and French, but had not yet arrived in Algiers due to World War II.

The drawings are made in black and white, and some have a few of the most prominent reasons for the work that made its author worldly famous, as the protagonist about his little asteroid.

The estimated sales prices range between 4,000 and 6,000 euros for the cheapest and 30,000 and 50,000 euros for the most expensive, in an auction that has more sentimental and curiosity than of strictly economic value.

The other piece is the original manuscript script of “à bout de souffle” (translated as “at the end of the getaway”), the film written and directed in 1960 by Jean-Luc Godard that marked the birth of the “Nouvelle vague” of the French cinema and revolutionized the seventh art.

The script is something “very rare, since Godard did not write such complete scripts”, but improvised every day, explained Anne Heilbronn, director of books and manuscripts in Sotheby’s, during the presentation to the press.

The script covers 72 pages, in which the main scenes and dialogues of the film are outlined, as well as a plan for the promotional trailer of a film that “revolutionized world cinema,” recalled Heilbronn.

The lot includes photographs and other documents. Its estimated sales price is between 400,000 and 600,000 euros.

Both lots are part of the auction of books and manuscripts that will be held online between June 4 and 18.

Sotheby’s will also auction this spring in Paris, within its sale of contemporary art on April 10, the personal collection of the Brazilian Niomar Moniz, founder and director of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, and also editor of the newspaper Correio Da Manha, from which she opposed the military dictatorship of her country (1964-1985).

A giacometti sculpture (“Femme Debouut”, 1952), with an estimated sale price between 3.5 and 4 million euros, and a Picasso paint (“Naked woman with guitar”, 1909), with an estimated price between 1.2 and 1.8 million, are the most outstanding works of this collection.
