The Hollywood Academy announced this Monday that the nominations for the 97th edition of the Oscars are being delayed again, this time until January 23, due to the devastating fires ravaging Los Angeles.

“The announcement of the Oscar nominations has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 23 at 05:30 PT (13:30 GMT),” the most prestigious film institution reported in a statement.

Nominations will be announced during a virtual event without in-person media coverage.

The voting period for nominations among members of the Academy extends to Friday the 17th.

On the other hand, “the Oscar nominees’ luncheon, scheduled for Monday, February 10, will not be held this year,” the Academy indicated.

This is the second date change announced by the Hollywood institution with respect to its award nominations, which were scheduled for this Friday and were initially postponed to Sunday the 19th.

Despite the rescheduling of the nominations, the 97th edition of the Oscars is still scheduled for March 2 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

The extension is due to the fact that many premieres scheduled for this week have been canceled or delayed due to the devastating wave of fires that hit the city of stars and that has left at least 24 dead and devastated more than 15,000 hectares since they were declared. last January 7th.

“We are all devastated by the impact of the fires and the profound losses that so many people in our community have suffered,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a joint statement.
