The award -winning American actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa have been found dead at home in New Mexico, the United States, the Santa Fe New Mexican website reported Thursday.

The website quoted the County Commissioner of Santa Fe, Adan Mendoza, who said that the couple had died with their dog and that there were no immediate indications of criminal acts.

Santa Fe County Police agents found Hackman, his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and a dog when they made a welfare check at home around 1:45 in the afternoon, spokeswoman Denise Avila said.

Hackman, 95, was nominated for Oscar five times and starred in dozens of films, to become one of the most respected and recognized interpreters in the industry.

He won two Oscar awards, for “The French Connection” (“Contact in France”) and “Unforgiven” (“Los Unrivens”), with 21 years apart.

The news of his death came just four days before the ceremony of the academy awards of this year.

The couple’s house is in a closed community just outside Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico.

Hackman moved to the area in the 80s, where he often saw him in the city and served as a member of the GEORGIA O’KEEFFE Museum Board in the 90s, according to the local newspaper, The New Mexican.

Hackman performed a wide variety of papers in action films, suspense tapes and even had a comic role in “Young Frankenstein” (“Young Frankenstein”).

Apart from his appearances in prize ceremonies, he was rarely seen in the Hollywood social circuit and retired in the middle of his 70 years.
