The recent revelation of an alleged extermination field and graves of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in a ranch in Teuchitlán, in Jalisco, where at least 400 pairs of empty shoes and human remains were found that could be disappeared, has unleashed a wave of indignation and mobilizations throughout Mexico.
“Mexico is not a country, it is a pit,” read one of the banners in Mexico City.
In the Zócalo of the Mexican capital, the largest public square in the country, the attendees made a 400 count in memory of the shoes found in said extermination field attributed to the Jalisco New Generation poster (CJNG) and traced a symbolic map of ranch with burning candles.
Human rights organizations, search groups and citizens joined in vigils and protests in various cities of the country to demand justice and as a alarm cry in the magnitude of the crisis of disappearances in the country.
Manifestations by missing in Mexico
The demonstrations were not limited to the capital of Mexico City and Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco, also arrived at the Tourist Cancun, in Quintana Roo, where searching mothers denounced in a vigil in the hotel zone the existence of clandestine cemeteries linked to organized crime.
María Dolores Patron Pat, president of the collective Mothers seeking Quintana Roo, denounced the existence of at least seven in the state, where bodies came out afloat after intense rains.
“There are seven who, as a collective of seeking mothers, we have identified, one in the city of Chetumal, in Bacalar, in Tulum, in Bonfil, by Villas Otoch (Cancun), in Leona Vicario and in Kantunilkin (…) only two (graves) we do know the amount (of people found), exactly are 24,” said Patron.
In cities such as Monterrey, the main metropolis in the north of the country, groups of relatives of missing and citizens gathered in the esplanade of the heroes in front of the Government Palace, where they also placed candles and dozens of pairs of shoes.
Testimonies of seeking mothers: “They are letting us die”
The search groups of missing persons expressed their indignation for the response of the authorities and demanded concrete actions: “Do not ask us to keep silence in the name of the defense of the country. We cannot forget our missing or stop looking for them ».
The TDT network denounced the omission of the authorities in the investigation of these crimes and demanded the opening of files to identify the remains found in Teuchitlán and in other extermination fields nationwide.
“We cannot continue normalizing these crimes against humanity,” they said, while denounced that from 2011 to date, 24 relatives of missing persons have been killed in Mexico, for their search work.
Likewise, Patricia de la Cruz, mother of Fernando Hernández de la Cruz, disappeared in the Northern Tamaulipas in 2022, who questioned the position of the government.
“The president says that they have not found many things, what has been said for seeking mothers. What happens is that she has not gone, she needs to be in the situation, ”he claimed during the concentration in the Mexican capital.
Pain testimonies
Another testimony, that of Aurora Corona Rodríguez, mother of Francisco Javier Osiris Hernández, also from Nuevo León, reflected the despair of families.
“We live in a country of horror (…) we suffer their absence and nobody does not pay us (…) the authority, the president, prosecution or I don’t know who should be, they never listen to us, they never pay attention to us,” he said.
Organizations such as Amnesty International, which also urged to investigate this case, have warned that around 30 people disappear daily, according to data from the government itself.
Meanwhile, President Claudia Sheinbaum has criticized the opposition to magnify the fact and has promised that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) will “all the information” next week about the alleged extermination field in the state of Jalisco.
Mexico accumulates more than 120,000 missing people to date, according to data from the National Registry of Missing and not located (RNPDNO), which counts the disappearances recorded since the 1960s.
