Pedro Pascal, protagonist of “Eddington”, the new Neo-Western set in the era of the pandemic of the independent director Ari Aster, said that narrative and self-expression are the perfect way to combat political agitation in the United States.

“Fear is his way of winning, to begin with. So keep telling stories, expressing and struggling to be who they are,” said the Chilean actor to the press at the Cannes Film Festival the day after the premiere of the film.

“Eddington” stars Pascal as the mayor of a small town that campaigns against a Sheriff in disgrace, played by Joaquin Phoenix, in a town of New Mexico where the tension increases because of the masks policies for the COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter protests.

Austin Butler, protagonist of “Dune: Part two”, and Emma Stone of “La La Land” are also part of the cast of the film, which will be released in US cinemas on July 18.

Ari Aster joins Pascal and claim to be worried ‘by the US currently

Pascal, known for his role in the adaptation of the dystopian video game “The Last of Us”, added that it was “too intimidating” to answer a question about the immigration policy of US President Donald Trump.

“I’m not informed enough,” Pascal said. “I want people to be safe and protected.”

Trump implemented drastic measures against illegal migration and also stopped and deported some permanent legal residents of the United States. Their policies triggered a wave of demands and protests.

Aster, who became known with the horror films “Hereditary” and “Midsommar”, said he wanted to capture how the United States felt during the pandemic and now, with his last film.

“I feel bad and I am very worried,” said the US director.

“We are on a dangerous path and I feel that we are living an experiment that goes and goes wrong.”
