Acapulco.- National and transnational companies decided not to work this Friday in Acapulco, Guerrero, due to the violence and murders that occurred on Thursday afternoon, events that left two workers murdered and one injured.

Among the companies that joined this step were the brewery Grupo Modelo, the soft drinks Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, as well as the water distributor Bonafont, Gamesa cookies and Sigma Alimentos, which did not go out to distribute their products to the businesses of the different streets and neighborhoods of the port.

The decision comes after three violent events were recorded simultaneously on Thursday afternoon, the first near the Costera Miguel Alemán, where most hotels are located, where alleged hitmen murdered the driver of a truck from the Grupo Modelo brewery.

Minutes later, a worker from the Sigma Foods sausage company was injured by a gunshot to the head, for which he was treated and transferred to a hospital for medical attention and his health condition is serious.

A few minutes later, a Coca-Cola promoter was also executed with a bullet to the head. His body was left inside an official soft drink vehicle.

During a tour, EFE was able to verify that in the facilities of these companies there were delivery trucks in the warehouses and in their parking lots.

Meanwhile, in companies such as Pepsi and Grupo Modelo, only the administrative staff, as well as maintenance and warehouse staff, were working.

In the case of Bonafont, only 10 of the 35 delivery routes that they have were the ones that worked, although only to deliver to supermarkets in the port, as well as on the Costa Chica and in Coyuca de Benítez.

For their part, at Coca-Cola, workers indicated that no one worked and the indication they have is that they will return to work until further notice, since they are afraid, while at Sigma Foods they stopped work in solidarity with the murdered workers.

In this regard, the state prosecutor’s office indicated that investigation files were opened for these crimes, for which they have carried out security operations with all agencies.

In addition, the Acapulco government indicated that they have intensified security tours to provide greater peace of mind and guarantee conditions for citizens and workers.

The federal government indicated that during December 2024, homicides had been reduced by 50.1% in Acapulco, which made it one of the least violent months during that year and at the national level, which was due to the security operations and coordination that had taken place. between all security agencies.

In addition, they had made various detections, including alleged leaders of criminal groups or cells, however, Guerrero has been experiencing a wave of violence for several months now.

According to official figures, intentional homicides in Mexico fell 16.3% during the first quarter of the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum, who took office on October 1.
