The photographic exhibition Amazonian Formed by 230 large -format photographs, it arrives for the first time to Mexico with the aim of inviting reflection on the cultural, natural and spiritual wealth of the Amazon, as well as the urgent need for its conservation.

The author, Sebastião Salgado, born in 1944 in Brazil, is one of the most influential documentary photographers in the world, known for his focus on social, environmental and humanitarian issues, combining his work with environmental conservation actions.

In these images collected throughout 9 years of expeditions, the majesty of one of the most important ecosystems of the planet is celebrated and demonstrated with respect the daily life of the Amazon indigenous communities, evidencing the interconnection between humanity and nature. “I have made more than 50 trips to the region, knowing and connecting with the communities,” said the photographer.

The relevance of this sample is given by the context of the region, since the Amazon extends through nine countries in South America and is home to 188 indigenous groups, threatened as the jungle itself by pollution, displacement, mining, mass agriculture and other extractive industries.

This new exhibition cured by Lélia Wanick, will be in the temporary exhibition hall of the National Museum of Anthropology for free from February 7 to May 4.

In addition to the impressive impressions, the exhibition is multimedia, making an immersive experience in the route that take us through the forests, rivers, mountains and the daily life of a
dozen indigenous communities, whose faces remain as a testimony of what existed and what exists, but that runs the risk and disappear.
