Pixar’s upcoming threequel, Incredibles 3, finally has a new release window.
A new report from the Wall Street Journal has shed light on Pixar’s future endeavors and its long-term release strategy, revealing more details about the studio’s upcoming projects. Among the biggest updates is the timeline for Incredibles 3. According to the article, the highly anticipated sequel is currently aiming to release the film theatrically in 2028, 24 years after the original movie debuted.
If everything stays on schedule, Incredibles 3 will arrive 24 years after the original The Incredibles, which premiered in 2004 and 10 years after its sequel, Incredibles 2, which debuted in 2018. The second film proved to be a massive commercial success for Pixar, earning more than $1.2 billion worldwide and becoming one of the studio’s highest-grossing releases.
The Incredibles follows the Parr family, Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack, as they attempt to balance everyday life with their secret superhero identities. The first film quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its mix of action, humor, and family-friendly storylines, establishing the franchise as one of Pixar’s most beloved properties.
Pixar has not officially announced a firm date for the film or any specific plot points. However, the reported 2028 release window suggests the studio is planning a longer development timeline for the third installment. The added time could allow the creative team more time to craft a story worthy of the franchise’s legacy, especially given the high expectations following the success of the previous films.
Brad Bird wrote and directed both The Incredibles and Incredibles 2. While Pixar has not confirmed whether he will return to helm Incredibles 3, many fans speculate that he will and consider his involvement crucial to maintaining the tone and style that helped make the first two films critical and commercial successes.
There is currently no specific release date for Incredibles 3 at the time of this article’s publication.
