PlayStation Plus members should be getting ready to get a glimpse at the Essential games for April 2026. However, this new batch of games finds themselves in a somewhat unique predicament, and that could mean PS Plus subscribers are waiting a bit longer for the latest monthly titles to arrive on the Essential tier.
April 1 is next Wednesday, which means the first Tuesday of the month (when PS Plus Essential titles typically release) won’t be until April 7. That gives you a bit more time than usual to spend with March’s games, which is confirmed by the official PlayStation Blog: March’s games leave on April 6, which means the new Essential games won’t arrive until the following day, April 7.
The PlayStation Plus Essential April Lineup May Be Delayed
This is worth noting because it could result in a bit of a delay. Traditionally, next month’s games are revealed on the last Wednesday of the month. In this case, that would be March 25. However, because of the way the dates line up this time, if the Essential titles were revealed on March 25, it’d be a long way until they actually show up on PS Plus in April.
As GameRant points out, that’s almost two weeks. That means it’s highly likely we won’t see any April reveals on March 25 as we typically would. Instead, it’s more likely we’ll see the new games for April 2026 announced on April 1, which is next Wednesday. That also happens to be April Fool’s Day, so maybe just check to make sure the announcement is legit if it does drop that day.
Key PlayStation Plus Dates Sometimes Fall This Way
This is a fairly unique situation for PlayStation Plus, but it’s not the first time this kind of thing has happened. Whenever the first Tuesday of the month doesn’t take place in the corresponding week’s actual first week, we usually see a PS Plus announcement getting a slight delay.
The good news is that there’s no reason to panic. Yes, we might have to wait a bit longer to see what new games are arriving in April, and, yes, it means we’ll have a shorter amount of time to add April’s games to our libraries (four weeks, as opposed to March’s five), but we’ll hopefully have a great selection this time around.
PlayStation Plus has had a mixed 2026 so far, but the service has made up for that by including more games than usual on its Essential tier while also adding some big names onto its Extra and Premium tiers. There’s always a chance we’ll see an announcement tomorrow, but April 1 makes more sense.
