The Pokémon Legends series is yet to really find its feet in the same way as the mainline series, with both games released under the banner so far failing to strike a similar chord with audiences at home.
Though they are absolutely solid games in their own right, they haven’t managed to carve out a unique identity for themselves, and the next release in the series needs to nail down exactly what Game Freak want it to be.
A big part of that will be the location, with a ton of existing idylls to choose from, though some are clearly being favored by fans online, as a new leak with a potential zone is proving in spades.
Pokémon Legends 3 Is Facing One Big Problem
Over on Reddit, one user shared an early pitch for the third game in the Pokémon Legends series, which came out as part of the massive data breach that developer Game Freak went through in 2024.
It details a potential idea in which the game would be set in Galar, 1000 years before the events of the most recent Pokémon games. The huge change to the usual proceedings is that the game wouldn’t feature Poké Balls, so catching ‘mons in the usual way would be an absolute no-go.
Instead, Pokémon are gathered by the player locally, following which we would be able to create our own flocks to battle giant Dynamax Pokémon. It’s a very cool thought, and it’s safe to say that fans were quite excited at the prospect.
“Ok this one sounds more interesting than Edo Period Johto. Galar had such an interesting background that was completely wasted on a very thin and basic story,” one comment read.
“Medieval Pokémon finally. It’s such a slam dunk of an idea,” another added. A third took that idea even further, saying, “I want them to get really weird with this title. Galar already has some really fantastical architecture, and environments with the Glimwood Tangle, Hammerlocke, and Motostoke. I want to see them go as far into the traditional medieval fantasy elements as they can.”
We May Never Actually Get A Third Legends Game, Despite Leaks
Despite these exciting leaks emerging all the time, there’s every chance that we never get a third game in the Legends series at all. The focus is definitely going to be on the mainline series for the time being, particularly heading into the 30th Anniversary celebrations and Pokémon Day.
Whatever happens, it would be nice to see another Pokémon Legends release where Game Freak really push the boat out and see what can be done with the concept.
